MB&F HM2 Horological Machine No.2 20.DSTBL.B Replica Watch
Rebel with a Cause: MB&F Legacy Machine Perpetual When you picture the founder of a replica watches for men brand, you probably picture an old, wise craftsman hunched over a workbench with a magnifying glass, not a handsome, rebellious Han Solo type, but that's exactly what the MB&F founder did type. Max Büsser has created an entirely unique brand, and like Solo, he leads a band of rebellious renegades; however, these renegades have slightly different goals. MB&F's main goal was to develop "radical watches" which they called "machines", and instead of calling themselves a watch company, they called themselves an "artistic concept laboratory". MB&F 'machines' challenge any and all watchmaking traditions from a design standpoint, but they also challenge engineering traditions. Even centuries-old watchmaking standards cannot escape the brand's insatiable thirst for innovation. With this MB&F Legacy Machine Perpetual MB&F has taken on and succeeded in the not-so-simple task of reinventing the perpetual calendar complication that has been a mainstay of watchmaking for 250 years.

MB&F Legacy Machine Perpetual launched in 2015, but its origins can be traced back to the brand's early days, in 2005, shortly after its launch. In 2006, Max and the team found themselves in a bind. A company they worked with on a new watch was sold before it was finished, and the company that bought them wouldn't continue. This ended up leaving MB&F with a lot of watch parts and no watches. After enlisting some help, Max was able to assemble a small team to help assemble the watch, including Irish watchmaker Stephen McDonnell, who not only spearheaded the assembly of the timepiece, but also personally improved poorly made components. This effort eventually allowed MB&F to Hang on, thankfully the luxury watches replica world,

Fast forward a few years, Stephen is looking for a career change and Max is excited about the opportunity to have him back on his team. Stephens' first project was one he had been working on for a while, and he thought MB&F would be a great partner. The side project in question is the restoration of a classic and much-loved complication, the perpetual calendar. Despite its long history, the Romance complication was, and still is, often plagued by a lack of durability and reliability. A simple mistake in setting the date can easily ruin even the best designed perpetual calendar, resulting in an expensive and lengthy watch service center visit. Stephen and Max decided to team up to correct this problem, and the result was the MB&F Legacy Machine Perpetual.

Many MB&F timepieces have a very futuristic look, with unique and abstract designs that look more like sculptures or art installations than watches, but that's not the case here. The whole ethos of the Legacy Machine series is to show what Max Büsser's watch would have looked like if he had been born a century earlier, and I think this watch definitely fits that line. The Legacy Machine Perpetual combines modern and traditional watch design elements to create a look that cannot be attributed to any particular period.

The combination of these features results in some design elements appearing retro, while others have an aggressively futuristic feel. For example, its large round 44 mm case has a classic shape reminiscent of a pocket replica watches price. Additionally, the very striking domed crystal harks back to the days before perfectly flat sapphire was the material of choice for wristwatches. Continuing with the traditional theme of the watch's exterior, you'll find small round buttons that are somewhat dated. They are function over form and remind me of old school chronographs. Ironically, however, these pushers are actually one of the more innovative features on the watch, as they automatically disengage when the movement is ready to change one of the date functions. This eliminates the possibility of accidentally damaging the movement by changing the date at the wrong time (often close to midnight). This time window is often referred to as the "danger zone" because it often damages traditional perpetual calendar movements. Not this one, it's only been in use for a few centuries, but MB&F figured out a way to save ourselves and preserve its precious movement.

While the aforementioned elements look traditional, the other design choices are very modern, and once you start visually exploring the dial side of the watch, it becomes clear that this watch is actually quite ahead of its time. Details like the oscillating hairspring in the center of the dial and the large black polished double-anchored balance bridge look very space-age. The power reserve and leap year indicators at 4 and 7 o'clock respectively also stand out as very modern elements. Furthermore, the layout and display of the radial white lacquer sub-dials is only possible with McDonnel's innovative "mechanical processor", which we'll detail below.

While the exterior of the high quality replica watches has some traditional design queues, the innovative movement that beats inside it has hardly any. The fully integrated perpetual calendar movement has been newly designed to provide users with a foolproof operating experience. The design prevents gears from jamming or skipping dates almost entirely, and, as mentioned above, actively disengages the pusher to keep the operator safe from himself.

In addition to designing these safety measures to make the movement more reliable, Stephen McDonnel also designed a new date mechanism called "mechanical processor". The new component defaults to a 28-day month and adds days programmatically when needed. This eliminates the movement of having to "skip" days when a month ends before the 31st, resulting in a more reliable mechanism. In addition to the mechanical processor mechanism, the date also employs a flyback mechanism that prevents an operator from forcing the mechanism past its programmed date. All of this combined for beautifully exposed movement too. Without the stacked gears and mechanical handlers, a large lever would block about half of the movement, preventing the wearer from seeing all the beautiful traditionally hand-finished parts.

That puts it pretty close to the top of the watch market, but that doesn't mean it's the only one. Here are a couple of other very premium perpetual calendar timepieces to consider.

If you've read any of my work before, you probably know that I'm a big fan of FP Journe. Like Max Büsser, he moves at his own pace and so does his replica watches for sale. But the Journe timepiece has a more classic aesthetic. Consider this elegant rose gold Octa Quantieme Perpetual Calendar "Boutique Collection". The watch, like the Legacy Machine, has a slightly different digital display for its perpetual calendar, but it's not drastically different. I think it might be a good compromise if you're looking for a perpetual calendar but find the Legacy Machine too bold in its size and design.

Now, let's say Journe is still too different for your tastes, and you really want to go the classic, old-world elegant route. In that case, I recommend this stunning Patek Philippe Grand Complication Perpetual Calendar. This gorgeous white gold watch features an officer-inspired case with lavish engravings inspired by pocket watches in the Patek Philippe Museum. It is the epitome of traditional elegant timepieces.

Unique in its innovation and sophistication, this watch belongs to those who prioritize these two elements in their lives. It's really hard to imagine this watch feeling right at home on the wrist of any well-to-do watch lover. I feel that the person who wears this watch should fully appreciate and even deeply understand the level of mechanical ingenuity and ingenious design of this watch. Maybe I put the watch on a pedestal, but the only suitable person I can think of is Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, a fictional superhero. However, while Iron Man isn't real, the watch is real, and perhaps its owner can use it as motivation to go higher, worthy of the genius of this MB&F Legacy Machine Perpetual.

How can you not be blown away by some scrappy watchmaking rebel taking a centuries-old watch complication and improving it in ways the industry giants dared not? Before delving into this watch, I was a little cold towards the brand MB&F. I have nothing against them, but their edgy style might be too much for me. This Shopping replica watches
has completely changed my perception of the brand and cemented it as my all-time favorite.
